The Pitt County Health Department will sponsor a cooking demonstration from 8 a.m.-noon each Saturday at the Leroy James Farmers Market, 4560 County Home Road. The demonstration will be of a healthy recipe featuring a donated produce item from local farmers. This week’s featured item will be potatoes. Recipes of the prepared dish will be available. Bethel Union parade
An Alumni Parade and Festivities will take place from 9 a.m.-noon in the Bethel community as part of the Bethel Union High School reunion. Members of the Bethel community are invited to participate. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at Cemetery Road and ends on Main Street at the old Piggly Wiggly. Classes from years ending in “7” will hold reunion celebrations throughout the weekend. The American Red Cross Eastern North Carolina Donation Center, 700 Cromwell Drive, is open every Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and is in need of blood donors. Call 758-1140 for more information.
A Pine Needle Basketry class will be offered from 10 a.m.-noon at The May Museum & Park, 3802 S. Main St., Farmville. The class will be taught by Charity Valentine, Pitt Community College art instructor. The cost of the class is $10 per student (which includes all supplies) and the class size is limited. The 2017 World Breastfeeding Celebration will be held from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pitt County Agricultural Center, 403 Government Circle. The purpose of this event is to provide community members with information about breastfeeding and to connect families with resources that help to encourage and support breastfeeding. The event is free and open to the public. Free school supplies
The Christ 2017 Free Back-to-School Supplies Event will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 621 W. Fire Tower Road, Winterville. There will be guest appearances by gospel rapper Canton Jones, Second Timothy, Keya Smith, Cappello and more. For more information call 252-414-5009.
Veterans host bingo
The Veterans of Foreign Wars 7032 host bingo games every Saturday at the post headquarters, 1108 Mumford Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30 p.m. Call 252-758-3251 for information between 10 a.m. and noon daily.
Marlboro Free Will Baptist Church, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will host a blood drive from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, 8031 U.S. 264 Alt. Blood donors are needed. Contact 758-1140 for more information.
The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will host A Back-to-School Block Party from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Thomas Foreman Park, Nash and West Fifth Streets. The event, for Pitt County students in grades K-12, will include free school supplies, food, music, a health fair, games and prizes. The Pitt County Council on Aging Road to Resources Program will be from 3-4 p.m. Monday at the Pitt County Senior Wellness Center, 4551 County Home Road. Kathy Sheppard with the Pitt County Health Department will present information about Emergency Preparedness. The program is free to the public, but space is limited.
